ASME at UCLA

External Vice President | 2018 - 2022

ASME at UCLA is a technical, professional, and social student organization centered around connecting and empowering engineers through projects, professional development, and more. ASME is one of the largest mechanical engineering organizations on campus and was an integral part of my development as an engineer and a person during my undergraduate career. I had the privilege of serving as Professional Development Director in 2019-20 and External Vice President from 2020 to 2022. On this page I'll be highlighting some of my favorite professional and social experiences during my four years in ASME.

ASME Officer Board for 2021-22

I first joined ASME to sharpen my technical skills but ended up sticking around for the community I found. In my sophomore year, I was elected as Professional Development Director, making me responsible for connecting ASME members to companies looking to hire. The bulk of my work was centered around organizing infosessions, resume workshops, and mock interviews, bringing company recruiters to campus to directly interface with potential candidates. During my year in the position, I hosted events with nearly a dozen companies, including leading employers such as Boeing, Raytheon, and Tesla. I additionally served as the Primary Coordinator for the UCLA Mechanical, Aerospace, and Materials Science and Engineering Career Fair, a completely student-run fair with 15 companies and over 400 students attending. Serving as coordinator put me in charge of inviting companies, managing financials, and securing the venue and associated logistics.

During my junior and senior years, I transitioned to serving as External Vice President, managing the professional development and finance branches. While EVP, I helped launch ASME's first ever outreach program, dedicated to organizing events with local elementary and high schools to teach hands-on engineering skills. We hosted a fully virtual event in 2021 with over 50 high school students and were able to hold several in-person events in 2022 at local elementary and high schools.

Beyond my official roles in the organization, I worked to make ASME the best community it can possibly be, welcoming both engineers and non-engineers to a welcoming environment. ASME has tripled in size since I first joined and become a premier student organization at UCLA. I've included photos of some of my favorite moments from below, please contact me if you have any questions about my leadership experiences at ASME.
